"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
"I ask for the nations..." - Ruth Heflin
Beloved, have you ever encountered a soul so aflame with God's glory that it ignites your own? Such was the life of Ruth Ward Heflin, a true worshiper whose voice resonated with heaven's melodies and whose heart beat in rhythm with God's own.
Ruth's life was a testament to what happens when one fully surrenders to the Lord's calling. For nearly 40 years, she traversed the globe, not just sharing the Gospel, but inviting people into the very presence of God. Her legacy at Mount Zion Fellowship in Jerusalem and later at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Virginia stands as a beacon of what can happen when we say "yes" to God's invitations.
Imagine, if you will, the summer of 1999 at the CPT camp. Seventy nations represented, drawn by dreams and visions, coming to drink from this spiritual "watering hole." Ruth stood in awe, recognizing God's hand in bringing the nations together. Can you feel the tangible presence of glory that must have filled that place?
Even in her final days, facing cancer, Ruth's faith never wavered. Picture her, wheelchair-bound yet preaching with undiminished passion, supernatural manifestations following her words. In her weakness, God's strength was made perfect.
Perhaps the most touching moment came just days before her homegoing. Jesus Himself appeared to her, asking if she was ready to come home. In that sacred exchange, we see the heart of a true servant - concerned for the ministry even as heaven beckoned.
Let us pray: Lord, we thank You for the gift of Your servant, Ruth Heflin. Her life challenges us to pursue Your glory with abandon. May we, like Ruth, sing Your praises until our final breath. Give us hearts that yearn for the nations and ears attuned to the songs of angels. Let our lives, too, be lived in the glory realm. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Beloved, as you go forth today, carry this truth: God is still calling worshipers to lead His people into glory. Will you, like Ruth, say "yes" to that call? May we all leave a legacy that causes future generations to hunger for more of God's presence. For in His glory, we find our true home.
With Love,
Steve Porter
May we all follow her example and growing in the grace of JESUS.
Amen 💕
