BREAKING THE BARRIERS
When God's Power Meets His People
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
Please stand with me in that upper room where 120 believers waited in one accord. Feel the electric anticipation, the holy hunger that filled that sacred space. This wasn't casual Christianity - this was desperate devotion that invited heaven's power to invade earth's atmosphere.
You see, the early church didn't just wish for God's power—they positioned themselves to receive it. "They all joined together constantly in prayer" (Acts 1:14). No distractions dimmed their focus, no divisions diluted their unity, and no competing agendas clouded their purpose. They simply came with a pure, concentrated hunger for His presence.
The Lord is speaking to His church about what holds back His power in this hour. Like Jesus in Nazareth, where unbelief limited His mighty works, our doubt and fear often build invisible dams that hold back rivers of His Spirit. We've become more skilled at explaining away His power than experiencing it, and we are more comfortable with programs than His presence.
Think of this stunning truth—that same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives within us! Yet, how often do we operate like spiritual paupers, neglecting or misunderstanding His power? We've settled for safe predictability when He offers supernatural possibility and for human methods when He offers His divine might.
The Master is calling His church back to first-love fire—not to more activities but to deeper intimacy, not to better strategies but to bolder faith. When we return to that place of desperate dependence, unified hunger, and complete surrender, His power flows unhindered through yielded vessels.
Press in Church of God. Let us cast off every weight of unbelief, every chain of fear, every barrier of division that holds back His power. When we unite in desperate prayer and yield ultimately to His Spirit, we position ourselves for biblical-scale demonstrations of His might.
For indeed, beloved, the same power that shook that upper room awaits His church today. Will you hunger for it? When we break through the barriers of complacency and unbelief, we discover His power was never limited - only our capacity to receive it was.
The invitation stands—not to better programs but to a burning fiery passion for His presence. May we be found among those who refuse to settle for less than His full power, who create space through prayer and unity for His Spirit to move in unprecedented ways. For when His power meets His prepared people, nothing remains the same.
With Love,
Steve Porter
