LEARNING TO DECREASE THAT HE MIGHT INCREASE
Becoming Less so That He Might Become More
"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30)
Come close to the Lord this morning, and let Him speak to your heart about true humility. In the secret place of His presence, where pretense falls away, and masks crumble, He longs to show us something precious about His heart.
You see, beloved, in this world of carefully curated spiritual images and polished presentations, the Lord is looking for those who have learned the sacred art of becoming less. Just as morning dew silently nourishes the flowers without drawing attention to itself, true humility flows quietly from a heart that has found its rest in Him.
Oh, how often we see those who package themselves as spiritual giants, whose voices ring out with carefully practiced authority, whose presence demands attention when they enter a room. They sprinkle their conversations with spiritual experiences like precious jewels meant to catch the light and draw admiring glances. They brag rather than hide behind the cross. But dear friend, the sweet Master is showing us a higher way.
Consider Jesus, our beautiful Bridegroom King. When He walked this earth, He didn't need to announce His deity or prove His spirituality. He simply was. His humility flowed as naturally as a stream in springtime, and his holiness was as authentic as the fragrance of summer roses. He didn't strive to appear humble—He simply abided in His Father's heart.
The Lord is raising a remnant bride these days, one who has learned the precious secret of decreasing. This bride doesn't love the sound of her voice or seek to establish her spiritual reputation. She has discovered something far more precious – the beauty of bowing low until she disappears and only Jesus remains visible.
In the cool of the evening, as we walk with Him in His garden, He whispers to our hearts, "Dear one, you don't need to prove your spirituality or brag about your walk with Me. Abide in Me, and I will shine through you." What freedom there is in this truth! We don't have to package ourselves as spiritual giants or maintain an image of superior holiness. We can simply rest in His presence, letting His life flow through us naturally and effortlessly.
True maturity, beloved, isn't found in appearing to be spiritually advanced. It's found in becoming so secure in His love that we no longer need to prove anything to anyone. It's in learning to decrease with joy, knowing that He becomes more visible through our lives as we become less.
The Lord invites us to a deeper place of authenticity, where we can lay aside our spiritual resumes and simply be who He created us to be. In this place, humility isn't something we strive for—it flows naturally from abiding in His presence. Like pure water from a mountain spring, it requires no effort, presentation, or packaging.
Come, dear friend, into this garden of true humility. The gate stands open, and He's waiting to show you the beauty of becoming less. As you walk with Him there, you'll discover that the less you try to be noticed, the more His presence becomes evident throughout your life. The less you speak of “you,” the more clearly others will hear His voice through you. The Bridegroom will purify the motives of His bride, and she shall come forth with a pure heart.
Ultimately, it's not about being seen as spiritually mature – it's about Him being seen in all His glory through our lives. The door to this deeper place stands open. Will you enter? Will you join those who have learned the joy of decreasing that He might increase? Your Bridegroom King awaits, ready to teach you the beautiful dance of becoming less so that He might become more.
With Love,
Steve Porter
