THE UPWARD CALL
A Clarion Call to Press Higher
“Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” —Matthew 7:14 (NKJV) Good morning, dear friend. I’ve been sitting quietly with the Lord lately, and there has been a gentle weight on my heart. Not a heavy burden… more like a nudge. A sense that Jesus is drawing people a little closer again. Not everyone feels it the same way. Some days it almost slips past unnoticed. But then there are moments when you realize He is inviting you forward — not with pressure, just invitation. I think sometimes we forget that coming to Christ is the beginning, not the finish line. Grace opens the door wide. We come just as we are, and He receives us completely. Nothing we add makes Him love us more. And yet, after years of walking with Him, most of us discover that there are seasons when the Lord quietly invites us into deeper trust — a deeper walk and a deeper life. Not louder worship. Not bigger ministry. Just deeper trust. I’ve watched believers over the years. Some stay near the starting place because it feels familiar there. I understand that. Life is tiring, and people carry wounds no one sees. God is patient with all of us. But then there are those moments when something inside refuses to stay still anymore. A holy restlessness. A hunger you can’t quite explain. You start realizing you don’t want just enough of God to make it through the week. You want Him Himself. That’s usually when the road feels like it tilts upward a little. The climb isn’t about proving anything. It’s not about earning salvation or becoming impressive. Honestly, most of the time the upward path looks ordinary from the outside. It’s quiet obedience. Choosing forgiveness when you’d rather hold on. Holding your tongue when stress says otherwise. Turning off the noise to pray even when you feel distracted. Saying yes when nobody applauds. I think Jesus loves those hidden yeses more than we realize. And I’ll be honest with you…the higher places are not full of perfect people. They’re full of people who kept coming back after failure. People who learned to repent without running away. People who stopped pretending they were strong and just leaned on Him instead. Sometimes we imagine the upward call as something heroic. Most days it feels much smaller than that. It feels like surrendering one more little area you didn’t know you were still gripping. There have been times in my own life when the Lord whispered, “Come closer,” and everything in me wanted to stay where it felt safe. Yet every time I said yes, even trembling, I discovered He was already there waiting. That’s the part we forget. He doesn’t stand far off shouting for us to climb higher. He walks beside us and slows His pace to match ours. Maybe you feel that quiet pull today. Maybe you’ve been sensing that there is more — not more activity, but more nearness. If so, don’t overthink it. Just take the next step you already know He’s asking for. Maybe it’s returning to simple prayer. Maybe it’s softening your heart again. Maybe it’s letting go of something that has been weighing you down. Small steps matter in the Kingdom. The road upward isn’t crowded, but it is gentle. And the beautiful thing is this: the closer you get to Jesus, the less the climb feels like effort and the more it feels like home. Keep walking, dear one. He is not rushing you. He is not disappointed in you. He is simply inviting you closer. And that invitation alone is worth every surrender. 🎶 All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.
